Grid Money requirements: who qualifies and which banks work

No credit check, but Grid still looks closely at your bank account. Here is what you need.

Grid does not run a credit check, but that does not mean everyone qualifies. Here is what Grid looks at and what you need before you sign up.

Basic requirements

  • A U.S. address and the ability to verify your identity, including your Social Security number
  • Age 18 or older
  • An iPhone or Android phone to run the app
  • A U.S. checking account that Grid can link to
  • For advances: an active Grid+ membership of $10 per month

What Grid uses to set your advance limit

According to Grid's own disclosure, eligibility and limits are based on these factors, reviewed regularly:

FactorWhat helps
Account activity and balancesA balance that does not regularly drop to zero
Direct depositsRegular paychecks into the linked account
Repayment historyRepaying every Grid advance on time
Income and tax refund projectionSteady income and an expected refund
Other risk factorsNot published by Grid

Which banks work with Grid

Grid connects to most large U.S. banks and credit unions through a secure data link. Some online banks and prepaid accounts connect less reliably, and users have reported problems with specific banks. Because the membership is billed monthly, link your account first and confirm Grid shows an advance offer before relying on it.

State availability

Grid's main features are offered across the U.S., but some products, such as the no-credit-check credit line, are not available in every state. The app shows what is offered where you live.

How to improve your chances

  • Send your full paycheck to the account you link.
  • Avoid overdrafts in the weeks before you apply.
  • Start with a small advance and repay it on time to grow your limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Grid work with Chime?

Results vary. At least one App Store reviewer reported that Grid did not work with their Chime account. Try linking your account in the app before you pay for a membership.

Do I need direct deposit for Grid?

Grid lists direct deposits among the factors it uses to set your advance limit. Without regular deposits, you may not qualify or may get a very low limit.

Is there a minimum income for Grid?

Grid does not publish a minimum income. It evaluates your income, deposits, balances and repayment history together.

Can I use Grid if I have bad credit?

Yes. Grid does not run a credit check, so your credit score does not decide eligibility.
