Grid Money fees and the true cost of an advance

No interest and no late fees, but a $10 membership. Here is what that means in real numbers.

Grid's pricing is easy to state: a membership of $10 per month, with no interest, no late fees and no credit check. Whether that is a good deal depends on how much you borrow and how often.

The true cost of a Grid advance

A flat fee feels cheap, but its weight depends on the amount you borrow. The table assumes one advance per month, repaid after two weeks, and the full $10 membership counted against that advance.

AdvanceMonthly feeFee as % of advanceApproximate APR equivalent
$50$1020%About 520%
$100$1010%About 260%
$150$106.7%About 174%
$200$105%About 130%
Illustrative only. APR equivalent = (fee / advance) × (365 / 14). Grid is not a loan and does not quote an APR.
Grid Money fee as APR equivalent by advance sizeBar chart: a $10 monthly fee equals about 520% APR on a $50 advance, 260% on $100, 174% on $150 and 130% on $200.Grid's $10 fee as an APR equivalent, by advance sizeOne advance per month, repaid after 14 days. The smaller the advance, the more the flat fee costs in relative terms.

Choosing instant delivery to an outside debit card adds about $2.99, which on a $100 advance raises the period cost from 10% to about 13%.

These numbers are not meant to make Grid look bad. A payday loan can cost $15 or more per $100 borrowed for two weeks, so Grid is usually cheaper than that. But it is far more expensive than a credit card or a credit union loan, and it is more expensive than fee-free advance apps if you only borrow a small amount.

How to lower what you pay

  • Use more of the bundle. If you also use PayBoost or the Grid Card, the $10 covers more than one benefit.
  • Borrow the amount you need, not the maximum. Repaying a smaller advance is easier and keeps your limit growing.
  • Cancel in months you will not need it. The membership is the main cost, so pausing it saves money. See how to cancel Grid.
  • Compare first. Our alternatives guide lists apps with lower or optional fees.

Grid fees compared with similar apps

Most cash advance apps charge through a subscription, optional tips, expedited transfer fees or a mix of these. Grid's $10 is higher than the lowest-cost memberships on the market but in line with apps that bundle credit-building tools. See the side-by-side table in apps like Grid Money.
